There are some other things that Beyoncé has done that raise the question of if she is a feminist or not. Recently Beyoncé posted a picture of her dressed and posing as Rosie The Riveter onto Instagram. Many sites, like E!, are jumping on how awesome this photo was and what it meant to feminism. There’s a deeper problem that many people don’t know or see though, Rosie the Riveter is not a good feminist icon. She is not a good representation of the ideal feminist woman working today. Rebecca Winson of The Guardian says that this is misrepresenting all working women, especially because a majority of poverty is working class women- and they don’t look like Rosie looks (Winson). Both Rosie and Beyoncé were prepped with wardrobe and makeup team before their photos. The average working woman does not have stylists and makeup artists available at the drop of a hat. To many people Rosie is seen as the ultimate feminist icon, but if you look deeper, it’s far from the truth.

Other Actions

Beyoncé has gotten some hate from people who are skeptics about her feminism about the name of her tour, “The Mrs. Carter Show” (Harris). If she is so independent and strong, then why should she be taking on a tour name of her husband, who doesn’t even use his last name? Why does she have to boil down all her feminist work into a somewhat submissive wife role (Harris)?
